OUR COMMUNITY

“You have to see it to be it.” - Billie Jean King

Exposure to sports from a young age has a significant positive impact on the physical and mental health of children, especially for young girls.

Multiple studies have shown that girls and women who play sports have higher levels of confidence and self-esteem and lower levels of depression. Yet youth participation in sports has been declining in recent years, with hefty participation fees and burnout being cited as two primary reasons.

At A Bar of Their Own, we believe strongly in the power of sports and community and have made it a core part of our mission to create a space welcoming and affirming of all athletes and their fans.

A fund of their own

We created A Fund of Their Own (AFOTO) to support local girls and women getting into the game. Money raised for AFOTO will be used to sponsor athletes and teams around the Twin Cities metro area to participate in camps, purchase team equipment, and more. We will be releasing the funding guidelines and application process soon!

Inclusive Adult sports leagues

Sports don’t need to stop as you get older! There are a large number of inclusive adult sports and recreation leagues in the Twin Cities metro area for a wide variety of skill and experience. Bring your authentic self to the courts, fields, and rinks to make friends while getting your fitness on!

Whether you have a whole crew ready to jump in or are looking to join an existing team, check out these local leagues!

Team Gatherings

Want to get all of your players together for a team meeting to kick off a new season? Need a space for your post-tournament celebration? We want to host you at A Bar of Their Own! We love hosting groups at A Bar of Their Own and can accommodate large private groups on Mondays and Tuesdays when we are closed to the public. We do not take reservations on days that we are open for regular service. Email us at hello@abaroftheirown.com to chat!
